-Roper Starch Worldwide Survey for Liz Claiborne, Inc. Domestic violence is the number one cause of injury to women in the United States. Domestic violence may occur at home but it also comes to work and affects the bottom line of every private and public sector organization. Women who are abused at home have increased health care costs, absenteeism, turnover, and stress in the workplace, as well as lower productivity. They and their co-workers are at risk for lowered employee morale, resulting in poorer quality products and customer service. Employees also can be at risk of real physical danger. When Domestic Violence Comes To Work 2000 can help educate employers and employees about domestic violence, and help develop policies, procedures and benefit programs. This training program can save your organization direct financial costs such as: increased medical and medical insurance expenses, reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, increased turnover, increased recruitment, hiring and training, attorney fees and court costs, disability accommodations, lost business, increased security, and consultant fees. It will also save in indirect costs, such as: fear and stress in the workplace, loss of internal and external credibility, reduced morale and reduced teamwork. Program Objectives:

  • Upon completion of the program participants will have:
  • Increased understanding of domestic violence issues that affect the workplace, including domestic violence laws.
  • Increased awareness and skill in recognizing, responding to, and supporting employees who are victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.
  • Identified community resources and services for domestic violence victims and perpetrators
Identified organization costs.
  • Increased understanding of organization liabilities.
  • Increased understanding and the ability to review, revise and develop organization policies, procedures and programs regarding domestic violence in the workplace.
  • Increased understanding of organization policies, procedures and programs for the safety of employees.
  • Increased awareness of management and employee options for involvement in domestic violence prevention and education.
Content:The complete training program includes:
  • Management Video and Employee Video.
  • Workshop for Managers and Employees - Understanding Domestic Violence.
  • Four Workshops for Managers:Introduction to Domestic Violence in the Workplace Liabilities and Organization Policies Responding to Victims and Perpetrators Community Connections & Management Actions.
  • Three Workshops for Employees:Introduction to Domestic Violence in the Workplace Org. Support, Responding to Victims and Perpetrators Community Connections and Employee Actions. Curriculum: Each Workshop includes:
    • Participant workbooks for managers and employees including content handouts and exercises.
    • Facilitator preparation steps including additional explanations and recommendations for delivering content and facilitating the activities, role play scenarios, and handout formats for customizing and inserting local and regional information.
    • Comprehensive Presentation Guide with logistics, content, and additional notes to assist the facilitator with delivery of all workshops.
    Overheads for each workshop. Resources include:
    • Examples of policies and programs from private and public sector organizations.
    • Listing of resource materials, references, national organizations, and web sites.
  • When Domestic Violence Comes to Work 2000 is being used nationwide by corporations, government agencies, law firms, colleges and universities, the military, hospital and medical centers, labor unions, law enforcement, victim advocacy programs, state coalitions and consortiums, and domestic violence agencies and women's centers.
