There's No Place Like Home: Growing Up with Family Violence

If a child was on fire, you would run over and put him out. These kids are on fire and we just can't see it. That's what keeps the cycle going.- Annie, Children's Support Group Facillitator There's No Place Like Home: Growing Up with Family Violence is a powerful four-part program that examines the impact of family violence on children and the long-term effects that follow them into adulthood. Part one examines the plight of 12-year-old Denise and her mother, Christina, who moved halfway across the country to flee their abuser and start a new life. Part two follows 19-year-old Katlin, who as a child, experienced neglect by his mother and beatings by her boyfriend. He has since struggled with substance abuse and suicidal feelings. In part three, Mary and her children Josh, 14, and Ophelia, 12, who have only been away from their abuser for a few weeks, undergo counseling to help them put the pieces of their lives back together. Part four features Sandy, a 45-year-old man nearing the end of a long prison sentence who is coming to terms with his childhood trauma of physical and sexual abuse.
